Consolidation and New Coffees!
So… after a bit of a hiatus its time for an update. We’ve been hard at work here at Xanadu with projects on top of projects on top of projects. The first thing I want to note is that we have moved our roaster to the warehouse location. For those of you that were not aware, we were running two locations, our roastery was located at 7th ave and Osborn inside Dark Hall Coffee and our warehouse housed our technician services as well as warehoused all our syrups, teas, etc… After a wonderful year and a half at Dark Hall, sace started becoming an issue for both us and them, so decided to consolidate our locations and move the roaster to the warehouse. Moving a roaster is not exactly an ‘afternoon’ type operation. So have spent the past 2 months finding the best layout for the everything but I think we are finally in a pretty good place. Hopefully this will help reduce confusion as well as increase productivity.
As for new coffees, we are moving forward with the new blends and rotating single origin. I’ve had some people inquiring as to why wwe have moved from a larger quantity of single origins to to blends with only one rotating single origin so lets tackle that:
So yeah, I mean, as we started picking up more clients and such, it just became untenable to have 10 different single origins and to rotate through each of them separately, to communicate which ones were for what, to let people know which coffees were going of stock and what was replacing what. Also, the way coffee is nowadays, it doesn’t really make sense to just have one coffee from a bunch of different regions for the sake of having those countries represented. Especially since now, one farmer can grow a variety of different varietals and process them differently to give you 20 different flavors of coffee just from one farm .
So, starting a few years ago, I just started trying to offer consistent 'flavors and profiles' and then rotating the coffees to fill those needs. Most of the blends or types of coffee on the website are just one or two coffees but represent consistent flavor profiles I am trying to maintain. And then there's the rotating single origin which is just anything nuanced or fun that I come across while sample roasting that I want to make available. It's maybe a little bit different but i feel like we do a really good job matching the coffee descriptions and all those coffees are 85+ coffees anyways. So if it a blend, it's basically a blend of two 85+ coffees, we just do it so we can replicate the coffee when we swap it out once a year .
The one coffee that we will be rotating out regularly is the Traveler Series and that is my chance to showcase the really fun coffees we try out on a daily and weekly basis. It will change and it will always be fun! For a taste see the blog we just did on our February offering, a wonderful Peru from the Padilla Family!
I hope that clears things up for people a bit who dont see the usual coffee offerings on our website but please try them and let me know what you think!
